Comment on A designer hunter-gatherer system through permaculture by Christian Cotton /2014/02/03/a-designer-hunter-gatherer-system-through-permaculture/#comment-23 Mon, 16 Mar 2015 19:12:54 +0000 /topic/a-designer-hunter-gatherer-system-through-permaculture#comment-23 Since it literally means cultivating the field, and because its use in modern and traditional farming is almost ubiquitous, and given that there are other terms for better and best “management” techniques (permaculture, horticulture, etc.), and since the advent of the particular form we have historically called “agriculture” it has always been–and continues to be–extractive and unsustainable, I see no reason not to (and four good reasons to) use the term pejoratively to refer exclusively to the unsustainable extractive practice of field cultivation.
